Bringing Greater Vancouver together

Capilano Suspension Bridge

Felt like doing some tourist stuff lately and then I wanted to go to Capilano Suspension Bridge. The last time I went was almost 10 years ago. Back then, everything seems bigger. Maybe because I was alot smaller than I am now. Nonetheless, it was still worthwhile to go to see why all the real tourists go there.

At the site, you will see staff members dressed in traditional outfits from the Victorian era. I wouldn’t mind getting one of those outfits for the ladies but I don’t think they sold them at the gift shop.

Capilano Suspension Bridge is located in North Vancouver, BC. It is a 150 meter long bridge suspended 80 m above a fast flowing river.

The bridge was originally built by George Grant Mackay in 1889 for preservation of land from logging. The original bridge was suspended by hemp rope. Now, the bridge is suspended by steal cables capable of holding up two 747 jumbo planes. When you walk across the bridge, you would doubt the stability of it. If you’re afraid of heights don’t lean over but then again, it won’t be as much fun until you realize how high you are up in the air. There are signs that say “Don’t sway the bridge” but there are always troublesome people such as myself who likes to purposely sway the bridge and make others scream.

At the bridge site, there are gift shops, snack shops, educational booths, cultural booths, totem poles, and “Treetop Adventure”. Treetop adventure is essentially suspended walkways that connects from tree to tree, a mini-suspension bridge. Furthermore, they have on-going free mini tours every 15-30 minutes that will take you around and explain some of the features on the site.

In addition to the bridges and shops they have at the bridge site, you can also obtain a certificate of crossing the bride. In order to obtain the certificate, you have to travel around and find several stamps and stamp them in your “passport.” Upon presentation of a filled passport at the Guest Services, staff members will present to you a certificate that reads “I made it across world-famous Capilano Suspension Bridge.” A person can then put it on their resume for their next job position.

Here is the rest of the photos:

GVRD Beaches

The new season has come and summer is finally here.

For those who like beaches these pictures are teasers:

In the background, you may notice a cruise ship. During the summer time in Vancouver, several cruise ships make their journey from Canada Place to Alaska for their Arctic tours. For more information on Alaskan tours, check it out here.

These pictures are taken at Ambleside beach in West Vancouver.

Terry Nova Parkway

Ever want to go have lunch on a quiet grass field on a sunny day? Here is one spot for those who answered yes. Terry Nova Parkway is located on the north edge of Richmond, BC, Canada.

Terry Nova Parkway is directly next to the Vancouver International Airport island. As a result, you can count planes leaving when you’re really bored or be awed by the awesome-ness of Jumbo passenger jets. Nonetheless, it is an open area for your enjoyment.

There are benches to sit to enjoy the view, grass fields to play ball games, and paved walkways to have a long jog. Also, there is a shopping Plaza nearby (I believe it is called Terry Nova Plaza) to grab some food and bring it to park to eat.

Terry Nova is an excellent place to have a nice walk after dinner if you live in the neighborhood.
