Richmond Olympic Oval
Had an opportunity to drop by the new Richmond Olympic Oval. There is free admission coupon that is circling around the internet for the Richmond Olympic Oval. So I took the opportunity to check out whats so fantastic about it.. and I have to say.. It is quite a fantastic building.
The venue was enormous. The building itself was just recently completed. Four stories high, the Olympic oval houses a magnificent brightly lit ice speed rink. For those who don’t know, this is the place where the 2010 Vancouver Olympic speed skating competition will take place. The building is certainly huge but I was beginning to wonder how they will be sitting all the spectators, media officials, game officials and etc into what looks like a small sitting area…
The gym was located on the top floor and over sees the rink below. The gym area was small but filled with up-to-date machines. I was playing a Dragon-biking game on the exercise bike machine; it involved gathering coins and chasing down dragons. I guess they’re trying to make things more entertaining than just straight peddling.
I didn’t venture off too far into the building because of a dinner, but I did take a picture of a cool-some ice skater statue made of metal parts welded together. It looked like something from the movie I-robot.
If you have an opportunity, check out the Olympic oval. For more information, check out their website at richmondoval.com.
